The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Police Department is an accredited agency dedicated to the welfare of the University community. The UNC-Chapel Hill police officers are qualified sworn officers. They are commissioned and hold the same responsibility and authority as city police officers or sheriff’s deputies. Our police officers protect campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are part of the day to day operations as well as campus events.

UNC Police strive to be active members of the campus community. The Department of Public Safety publishes an Annual Report which reflects the united efforts and resulting achievements of the department. The goal of the report is to communicate the vision of being a leading community-oriented police department in the nation. UNC Police remains dedicated to the creation and maintenance of a safe environment for students, employees, and visitors.
